Her personal experiences have fueled her service-driven approach, including volunteering at Connections of Cumberland, where she provided case management to homeless women and children. Certified as a FEMA Disaster Operations Manager, Kathy has coordinated relief efforts during significant crises, including Hurricanes Irma, Matthew, and Florence in North Carolina, Hurricane Harvey, and California's Thomas Wildfire. As a co-advocate for the Pathway to Prosperity housing program, she has helped individuals break the cycle of poverty and achieve stability. Her leadership extends to her tenure as Chair of the City of Fayetteville Board of Commissioners for Public Arts, where she championed community engagement through art.

Kathy's activism is chronicled in her award-winning book, The Mother, The Soldier, The Activist, which captures her transformative journey and unwavering dedication to justice. Her impact has been recognized through honors, including the A. Philip Randolph Institute's "Community Leader Award" in 2022 and a Global Recognition Award, affirming her as a leader who inspires and empowers future generations.
